leaf springs

doing a rebuild on my 87 zook, with my engine and tranny out my springs are flat which is supposed to be normal i hear but the rear of the springs next to the shackle is turned down about 3/4". are my springs weakening or is this normal also

The bottom leaf on the rear springs acts like an overload spring- it is turned down, that's normal for stock leafs. They also tend to be flat which allows for easy flex both directions. I prefer an arch and someday will get new arched springs. Also adds some lift.
