Lockers-Are Lockrights on the Front?

I have an 1987 Samurai and I want to install lockers. I am trying to decide between Lockrights and ARBs. Does anyone have experience with Lockrights on the rear and front of their rig? Does someone have experience with both of these set-ups?

Thanks

CAJ

Re: Lockers-Are Lockrights on the Front?

Most every Samurai that is "locked" is running either Lock-Rites or E Z Lockers (very similar design). When used up front in 4WD, steering is tough - this is where the 2WD-Low option in the transfer case is nice to have.

I have seen a couple of Sam's with air lockers up front - they worked well and you get the plus of on-board air w/ the ARB set-up, but it is a relatively expensive option. I don't particularly like having an air line on the axle housing - seems like it would be problematic.

HTH,

If money is no object, ARB air lockers are the way to go.

put lockrights in it!!! on the street your hubs are disengaged anyway so no difference at all from stock. and if you get in a tight spot on the trail just get out of the truck and unlock one wheel( knowing you just save $1000 by walkin 3 steps). and you better get some birfield rings no matter which you choose.

get a lockright and with the money you save over an ARB you can install a power steering setup

Hey Randy! Long time, no see. I'm thinking of doing a little wheeling Sunday for my birthday (which is today BTW). I'm checking with Matt, but I'm sure he'd like to stretch the legs too. What's your plans?

Re: Lockers-Are Lockrights on the Front?

I've got Lockers front and rear with the 2 low shifter conversion. When I put mine in ARB's weren't available. When in 4WD steering can be a real pain. If I had the money I'd convert to ARB. And, if I were starting over on a budget I'd lock the rear and save for an extra month or 2 and ARB the front.

Sorry dude. Would love to. I really mean that, but Shan planned a B-day party on Saturday. Knowing that you'll be up the b-con, makes me all the more jealous.

Glenn, if you want to make a weekend, let me know. I know Matt needs some new trails cleared, and I don't know if you're into that. But I plan on doing SOMETHING on Sunday as it is my uncommitted day

Oh well I got things to do on Sunday. After The melt things will be a bit more open. I am hoping that my new clutch gets here in time for sat, as I think the one in there is slipping on the street now.. If I was closer we would crash the party too.. As it is I think I may head to a local 4wd
shop after to test on thier ramp, (That and to show Up some
Jeeps..)
