Clutch question

My brother has an 88 Sam and he's having trouble with the clutch. When he first cranks it the gears shift fine. If it sits and idles for awhile it doesn't want to go in gear. I can see the rpm's drop when he tries to put it in gear. If he drives it without stopping for a long period of time, it shifts fine. Anybody have an answer. Thanks.
