want to buy a samurai for my lil bro

I am looking to help my little brother with the purchase of a used samurai(obviously)...just looking for advice on the best years, motors, what to look out for and what to ask for ...thanks

umm what wil he mostly be doing?? Rock crawling..or boggin?? just about anything 86 and after is good cus parts are easier to find in those years

he will be using it as a daily driver but we live in the mojave desert and are always out and truckin...so mostly light trail and roads just looking for dependibility and abilty to upgrade

Well the 90 and up had FI, so you don't have to fight with a possibly messed up carb, (When the carbs work right they work well but they are like a poor mans FI, Computer controlled and easy to screw up..)
The post 88.5's are supposed to have a little better ride, (Spring change) Make sure you have good
compression (175psi-199 Ideal) and watch for oil leaks, Commen areas are the fuel pump vent, oil pan,
distributer o-ring and front main seal. (Easy and cheap to fix.) But It will give you some bargening leverage...

Well it depends on the part of the world you are in, and if you can do some work on it. (If you have a mech work on it
go higher end on your purchase if it is in better shape.
some rock'in deals can be had if you can turn a wrench yourself.
