I had some on my first Sami and NEVER had any problems. I guess like anything else, it all depends on how you take care of it. Of course, my first Sami was over ten years ago and I didn't wheel it too hard. I kinda liked them because I was too lazy to get out and turn the hubs...
If you dont want to get otu and lock the hubs, yet still want a very stong hub (stronger than locking hubs) get full time hubs. They came stock on my 87 and 83, fine off-road but not good for highway and street driving.
I have auto locking hubs from a sammi and a tracker. I have often thought i would like to try them to see what it was like, but i have heard that if you go in reverse at all then they unlock. This was from a person who owns a trooper, so we agreed that it is untested on a sammi, and they are not obviously the same rig. I still think it would be neat to put on Heidi's rig and see how it works, but if its dangerous then i wouldnt do it. Does anyone know anymore about this? Geoff? Wakefeild? Bueller?
i have run auto-locking hubs on my zuke over a year now-
broke 2-ujoints and 1 driveshaft yoke from wheeling hard
but no problems with the hubs-still have the manuals but
will probaly never go back to them--oldzuki
