hey man, when i had 5:12s and stock t/c, i was turnin about 4200 rpm to run 80 or so. when i got my grsII, before i puked my 5:12s, i could run approx 50 or so and not twist the motor too hard. although i did have it up to 70 once on the interstate.
Do unto others as you want done to you!
If you pack it in, pack it out!
It's not that bad.... I have a GRSII, 5.13's and smallish 32" SX's. I realize my speedometer is way off, but judging from the flow of traffic I would guesstimate that I'm doing around 55-60 MPH at 4,600 RPM. You'll have absolutely No trouble pulling hills in fifth gear! I pulled a small utility trailer today with two lawn mowers on it, uphills were not a problem. The revs are a bit high for a daily driver I guess, but for a rig that is used mostly off-road, low gears Rock!
I agree with CSR, the gearing is worth the revs. I run a GRS1, 5.38's and 32 BFGs. If I remember right, my speedo says 70 and the tach is around 4400rpm. The speedo is about 14mph off. I used it all last week because of gas prices. With all that gearing, it still got 24.2MPG in town. I dont know how true that is because of the tire size tho.
It will rev high at 50MPH, but it's not too bad. The thing I notice is that you go through the gears fairly quickly. I often don't even use first gear because it only takes ten feet before I need to shift into second.
