Help! New 1.6 isnt running well.

Only a few more days to fix my rig before Memorial Day weekend.

Right now it is missing and idling rough. It was running just fine but then it started idling rough and blowing black smoke and now it misses pretty badly when you get on it.

I have traced the problem as far back as the distributor and isolated the problem to cylinder 3. When you hook the timing light to each cylinder they each blink nicely until you get to 3 and it is missing a lot of flashes. Swapped plug wires and plugs and still only happens on 3. New cap/rotor and still 3. This leaves with the distributor which I don’t have an extra to swap.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, as I want to go wheelin next weekend!

The engine is an '89 8v TBI engine.

Lonnie,
Did you change the cap? See what everyone here says and if no luck call Brent at Trail Tough. His number is 1-877-789-8547, if anyone would have an answer about the 1.6 it would be him. BTW is it the 8 or 16 valve?

Yeah, changed the cap and rotor.

Brent helped me with the fuel pump problems I had, got that all fixed up. Thought I would try here first before I called and bugged him again tomorrow

Oh well, the part number on mine is 33100-80C1. There's a smaller number under that one and it's 229100-7180.
