Re: RETREADS!!!

I had purchased the 30" at's and they were just as good as any other tire, the tread is similar to the BFG's. delivered to the door for only $200. as far as your lift goes, you will fit 31's with no problems but your gearing might be to much for the street though. Lance

Re: RETREADS!!!

how about a set of retreads and highway driving? my rig is a daily driver and I get out most weekends. If I can SAFELY use retreads on the highway I think I'll go with them.

Re: RETREADS!!!

I run the 31" MT High Tech retreads and think they are great. 5.12's would be too low of a gear unless you were running 33's. With the lift combination you mentioned you would only get approximately 4" of lift and could barely fit 31's underneath. They would definitely rub offroad. Also, with 31's and 5.12's you would only get up to 55mph and be tach'n you engine out at 4500rpm.

A lot of people do not like the body lift because of the added stress it puts on the body and it is a PITA to install. If you have to go this route, go with a 2" body lift and try some Add-A-Leaf springs. It will give you a stiffer ride though.

Personally, I would go with a 5.5" SPOA lift if you can weld or find someone else to do it for you. Then if you add the 1" shackle lift you could fit 33's underneath and use the 5.12's to correct for the larger tires. There are other things that have to be addressed such as steering, brake lines and drive shafts when you start getting up above 4" of lift if you want your rig to remain safe and drivable. I have some moderate bump steer and the pucker factor is pretty high when you hit a pothole or large bump at 55mph!

Welcome to the never-ending spiral… I bought my Samurai only 9 months ago to drive and tinker around with. Now look at me!
