Need some Help, please help me out guy\'s...

I found an 1972 hardtop lj20 for 300.00 dollars but im not sure if i should buy it or not. The guy sent me a pic and the body is actually in very good condition, but im sure its going to need mech work. Problem is I'm no mechanic and im sure parts must be a bitch to find for this thing. Also, iim in NY and its in the middle of the US so im going to have to pay for shipping...........Anyway, should i get this or pass it up...I've love the truck but im thinking it might cost me way to much to bring back to life. I dont have spec on what needs work yet (guy is emailing me details later) but im sure even the simple things like tuneup parts would be hart t find........on the plus side though the body is in good shape, only lite surface rust here and there.......I'll post a pic later when i get home..........Im just 50/50 on this.........someone please leave some feedback to help me tip the scale one way or another..............thanks in advance!

Yes parts will cost you mucho dinero! The best thing to do is buy it and drop all samurai running gear into it. sell the LJ20 runnign gear and make back some of your money!

Here, make it "clicky" http://www.lj10.com
As for the tuneup thing, i belive they have the same 1L engine as the aj 410's but i could be wrong. I don't know what kind of t-case and diffs they have. If i had that truck i would swap in Samurai diffs, and engine/tranny, and maybe keep the stock t-case, depending on what kind of gearing it has and how beefy it is.

Re: Need some Help, please help me out guy\'s...

itsjustsay,

I had a LJ 20 in really great shape this past summer. Bought it at a car show and resold it for a fair price to a collector. I found that parts are almost impossible to find and you will definitely need to collect a few parts rigs to keep it going. There seem to be a few parts rigs still available.. I couldn't even find a dist. cap or brake parts anywhere. And forget about a carb kit!!!
This sammy has a two stroke engine and they run like crap always clogging up with oil and bogging down.

By the way it is really, really, small inside,, If you're a big guy forget about it. I'm average build and I had trouble driving this rig it was so small... I had to open the window and put my elbow out.... just to turn the steering wheel!!!

But, If it's a novelty you're seeking this will really draw crowds at a car show. That's how I bought it and people were squabbling over it after I closed the deal!!!

I agree with the other fellow who said to keep the body and update the running gear to a later model sammy. You can see a picture of my rig just before reselling it on LJ20.com click on readers rides page 2. It's the 9th rig down the page at ( [email protected] )

Good luck
