Lots of scout talk on this zuk board... I thought i was the only one who owned a Scout and a Zuk!
Got a 61 scout 80, 74 scout II, and in the process of getting a 69 800 with a parts scout for 200$$$
How many other scout owners out there?

Re: Scout talk on a Zuk board?

Well I'm not an owner anylonger, But I started out on a scout 800 SPOA,years ago. (This was one of the reasons
I didn't want to go SPoa at first...) steering wheel
was on the right side (Passengers side). Talk about
a hell of a first car.

Got 3 of them, selling one for $200. Nice rigs, just rust out a little fast, drivetrain is bulletproof. Damn things will go anywhere and climb anything, never seen one non-running, they last forever. You have an early 80? With the fold down windshield? Cool!

Re: Scout talk on a Zuk board?

Lets see, Ive had a 78 Scout II that was pristine gears and then it got totalled on my 17th birthday by some idiot in a damn escort exp. Then i got a nice 75 but i didnt like it cuz it wasnt my 78 so i sold it. I jus sold a 66 800 halfcab. So now im down to a 67 V8 800. Its got a dana 60 rear, dana 44 front (both from a 68 travelall) t-18 4spd locked front and back,3.73 gears and the 345 from my 78. scout II. Ive got a grand total of -50 bucks in it. After sellin all the parts i didnt need ive actually made 50 bucks on it.

In highschool i had a 66 travelall. It looked like a POS but nuthin in town could outpull me. It had 280,000 on it when i took it apart. I sold the motor and its still in a Scout II thats driven daily. I believe its got sumthin like 350,000 miles on it now.

I also have a 65 shortbed stepside pickup with 1 1/2 ton exmilitary runnin gear under it. (rockwell timken rear, dana 70 front, both detroit locked and geared 4.88 from the factory). Its got a 392 and a 5spd. That truck is still in progress. Its now in its 6th year of an off and on full frame off restoration.

Dad has a 71 1510 (1 1/2 ton) flatbed. He also has a 72 1310 (1 ton) fleetside bed dually. Its got a 392 and an automatic.

To say the least im a diehard IH fan. I bought my sami cuz i sold the 75 SII and wanted some good gas mileage. I had originally planned on resellin the sami but i dont think i could ever part with it. Its too much fun and fits in places the scout only dreams about. Plus after rolling it and rebuilding it out of my pocket ive got close to 5grand in it (and it still needs to be repainted). I dont have 5 grand in every Binder ive ever owned totalled together.

Have you ever been to the show in Ohio. I think im goin back this year (havent missed in 4 years) i want to go to the one in Colorado again but id rather go to zukimelt. And i dont see either one happening since i bought my tacoma and got that speedin ticket.

Sorry bout the long post, but i get excited when i hear that somebody else owns a Binder AND a zuki.

Re: Scout talk on a Zuk board?

I forgot to say that the travelall that i got the dana 60 out of once had a chevy 302 z motor and a turbo 350 tranny. I wish he woulda let that motor go too. It would suck for 4wheelin cuz its a high rpm motor, but jus think what it would do if you stuffed it into a sami drag truck.

Re: Scout talk on a Zuk board?

My brother in law had one of the older Scouts several years ago that was non-running more than it ever was running. It wouldn't get you back, if you could get there in the first place. I'm sure all of them are not THAT bad, but I wasn't real impressed with their reliability.
