Tracker trany question and swap question

I have a 1.6- 8 valve and trany from a Tracker. When I got it it was already pulled. I don't know if the trany is a 2WD or a 4WD trany. How do I tell? Are there codes written on it? I think mine says M24 on the side.

I've also seen some discussion about putting a 2WD trany in a Sami. Is this an easy swap? If mine is from a 2WD (which I suspect it is), it looks like it'll be too long and wide. But, I'd like the ease of not having to change over the trany from the Sami since the Sami trany seems kinda beat.

I'm a "newbie" when it comes to building a Sami (I've had 8 but this is the first one that'll be built.). I'm also documenting the buildup which I'll turn into a webpage one of these days. The buildup is EXTENSIVE. I've torn everything down to the frame and I'm rebuilding or replacing basically everything except the frame and the steering wheel.

Here's the plan so far...

88.5 frame
90 tub and front fenders
90 SPOA axles
3in lift springs (unknown maker)
92 Tracker 1.6
SJ410 T-case (And front grill)
90 Sami TBI swapped over to the 1.6
31 in MTs on 15x8 aluminum rims

I'm also looking for a good gear to swap in but haven't made up my mind.

And, eventually Air Lockers for the front and rear.

I'm doing the "Low Cost" buildup and I'm buying parts in bulk and selling off what I don't need. Total out of pocket for what I have so far... $400.00!!

Will it be done in time for Zookimelt?!? Who knows? But, my wife is praying it will be!

Re: Tracker trany question and swap question

I think you should change the steering wheel too!

Re: Tracker trany question and swap question

LOL! The steering wheel is the best part...Grant GT...

The donor Sami was a "Low Rider" show truck with hydraulics and a NASTY paint job (Sorry if you read that Stewart but it was BUTT UGLY.). The car was in a minor accident and the Stewart decided to sell rather than fix it...
