Re: separating sami axle shafts?

i am not positive about this but i think you can do it with a piece of 1.25 or 1.5 in pipe. the toy guys slide the axle in to the pipe and put the pipe straight up on a board [to keep from messing up the splines] and then slide the axle into the pipe so that the weight of the axle pops the retainer. i will go out and try it to a axle i have out back and get back with you. but the idea is that when you slide the axle into the pipe rather quickly the weight of the axle will pull it out of the birfield. i wil get back to you but this is my only idea i have come up with for a zuk. later mike

Re: separating sami axle shafts?

if you hold the CV joint vertically, so that the half-shaft dangles below, and give the very top of the CV stub (where the circlip goes) a damn hard whack with a big hammer, the shaft should just fall out. (the shock releases the internal clip)

you have to hit it quite hard ... so be accurate .. or your other hand may become slightly less useful than before.

you can place in on the edge of a work bench (instead of holding it) but you have to hit it even harder (because the bench absorbs too much of the shock) and you will start to damage the top of the CV shaft

anyway .. good luck !

fix it .. bend it .. mend it

Re: separating sami axle shafts?

Has anyone actually been able to remove the inner axle from a Samurai Birfield & not destroy the joint? I can do it on the Toyota one, but the Suzuki will Not come out!
