Difference between 1300-1600

Just curious about the stock horsepower output between a 1300 samurai engine and a 1600 8-valve sidekick engine. would it be worth the time and money spent for the 1600 conversion? Thanks, Lance

87 Sami conv. Header 2" ex. 4-16 t-case, 4"lift,weber, rear lockrite,rancho's, and a very long wish list.

the 1.3 has about 63 hp and the 1.6 has about 120 hp. Of course this depends on the year.

just bought 87 silver sami, put on 30x9.50's no lift so far :-)

Re: Difference between 1300-1600

it depends what model 1600 you get. there's a 1600 8 valve with tbi and there's a 16 valve twin cam with mpi. the 8 valve puts out 80 or so horses and the 16v alot more but not sure how much. my setup is a 1600 with the 1300 head with a pony carb. this setup I believe produces better low end torque plus its alot cheaper.

According to Suzuki, the horsepower output of their truck engines is as follows:

Samurai 1300 8v carb: 64hp
Samurai 1300 8v tbi: 66hp
Sidekick 1600 8v tbi: 80hp
Sidekick 1600 16v mpfi: 95/98hp (obd1/obd2)
Sidekick Sport 1800 16v mpfi: 120hp
