More Power

Just another question totry and improve the 1300 power output, does anybody know if the 1300 head with 1600 valves and a low-mid range cam would be worth the effort and money. I already have the thorley header and weber carb. Thanks for the input, Lance

Re: More Power

Lance, from my experience, putting larger valves tends to move the rpm range of an engine higher a bit. I have never been satisfied with the modest power gains vs. the Pain & $ to do it.

Re: More Power

I think your better off leaving your 1300 head alone, I read somewhere in glenn wakefields 1600 swap that he used the valves and lifters from the 1300 head in his 1600 head because he had a problem with the 1600 lifters breaking when using an isky torquer. The 1300 valves and lifters appear to be stronger

Re: More Power

OK if I can butt in on this post, what about hi comp pistons, blueprinting, balancing and the forementioned cam ?
Do y'all think this would give the little Zookie a boost, or is cubes still the only way up?
Interested,
alfie

Re: More Power

i just finished installing a calmini cam in my 1300-already had a weber, 2" free-flow exhaust w/free-flow cat & dynomax,
jacobs ignition, 4.16 t/c gears. at the same time i installed a 88.5 tranny with it's lower 5th gear and am very pleased with results-now i can run 70 mph with no problem-finally!! that's with 29x10.50 swamper tsl's which are very heavy

Re: More Power

Err, not to sound thick but won't the 1600 head just bolt on to the 13?? Would be cheaper and easier right?

Re: More Power

mee's tinks that a 1.6 head will go right on a 1.3, but you wont have provisions for a mechanical fuel pump on the 1.3 then. unless you have a fuelinjected zuk with a tank pump, it can be a problem. you would have to get a electric pump to give you go juice from the gas tank.

Re: More Power

Now that's wierd, because my Vitara runs the 16 8v and there's provision for a mechanical fuel pump, it's got a blanking plate on it at the mo' as it's always had a electric pump by the tank, now I know this is an add on as the wiring to it's real scruffy, but hey it works, a mate is an auto sparky but we never have time to do the rewire, still it works.
