Driving with 4 lugnuts

I am driving with only four lugnuts on the left front of my 87 stock Samurai. I was in Rocky Point Mexico and had a tire problem and they buggered one of the nuts and I had to spend 2 hours GRINDING it off with an antiquated air owerd grinder. Most of my friends say "not to worry" about having only four lugnuts. They say Suzuki over engineered it anyway and, as long as I'm not doing anything radical it won't matter. What are your thoughts. See second post about the "workaround"

Take a nut off your spare. Or is it your stud that is missing?

Re: Driving with 4 lugnut POSTS

Sorry, I didn't make my self clear. I had to grind through the entire post due to the circumstances. So I am driving with only four posts and nuts not the OEM five. I was unable to find the proper post in Mexico and am having real marginal success here in Phoenix so far. THANKS for your reply!!!

Re: Driving with 4 lugnut POSTS

Remove either the drum or the rotor and pound out the stripped stud. Then replace it with a new one.

Re: Driving with 4 lugnut POSTS

i know, i am crazy, but i have run with 3 on a 5 lug wheel before, never had any problems, but it was temporary. it is probably ok for the time being, but it is too easy to go to suzuki n order the proper part n spend a hour or so fixin it properly.

Re: Driving with 4 lugnuts

If you’re in PHX why not try a foreign auto parts store and get a 12 X 1.25 mm (I think) wheel stud? Take a wheel nut with you from your spare and let the guy behind the counter help you. If you can’t find it in Phoenix, it don’t exist. Try living in “Now Where” (about 150 miles east of Phx.) and find a part.

The 4 lugs should be OK for the mean time. Might want to double check the torque. IMHO

Re: Driving with 4 lugnut POSTS

I had some idiot with an impact gun totally f'up one of my studs on the left front and had to cut the nut off the stud. Never bothered replacing it, that was 3 years ago.

I drove with 4 lugnuts, but it was too crowded, so I made one of them get out,,,,,LOL

Re: Driving with 4 lugnuts

Didn't know you could fit that many in a Zuk.

I have run with 4 of the 5 on a Scout of mine for about 7-8 years now, in fact, those axles I put under the Scrambler still only have 4 lugs nuts on them. I am going to replace it, but just haven't yet, no problems.
