How short is to short

How short can you go on the shaft between the transmission and transfer case? I did some measuring, and the toyota tranny Im wanting to use is 6 inches longer than the sami tranny. Engines are almost identical.

slap it in there n try it man. i have heard of fellers runing a tranny yoke, ujoint, then the t/c flange directly mounted to the ujoint. there is always room, if you want to relocate the t/c. but i am not a fan of it, too much work for a fat lazy billhilly like me. whoops, i meant hillbilly!!! Re: How short is to short

Had a driveshaft built that was 9" long. Its in a 68' Power Wagon 4x4, powered by a 3208 cat. That shaft hooks the brown-lipe 3spd auxillary tranny to the transfercase.

How on earth did you fit a 3208 Cat in a vehicle? I have seen 1172's, but not much else for V-8 Cat's. My dad has one in his deep sea fishing boat, and the engine cover alone is 6' long, doubles as a bed.

Even with the 6" longer tranny, you should still have a small jack shaft, like about 5" if memory serves.

Re: How short is to short

. Actually it fits real nice in the old Power Wagon, damn near looks like a factory job. Its backed up by a Allison auto/Brown-Lipe 3spd/T-case. When you put the t-case in low and brownie in low......its a beautiful thing watching the truck crawl around. There is another guy here in Corpus Christi that put a 3208 in a 70's model GMC crewcab.......pretty tight fit on that one.
