Engine stalling when the engine is cold?

Hi. I have this problem for about a year or so. When I start my 87 Samurai up in the morning when it is cold, the fast idle would kick in. I know that is normal but when the fast idle slows down a bit, the engine stalls. After I turn the engine on again, it might stall again. But after the engine warms up, it runs and starts like normal. My mechanic does not know what to do because he usually sees my vehicle when my engine is warm and it runs like normal. Any suggestions or comments. Thank you for your reply.

Re: Engine stalling when the engine is cold?

Sounds like a choke problem. In the past, what I've done is to remove the automatic, spring loaded choke and install a manual, cable controlled unit. If you don't want to install a manual choke, then you may need to examine your existing choke and replace it - they do wear out, and slowly lose their spring.

Mine does exactly the same thing.Take the vaccum actuator off of the choke, and clean components a tad. This somewhat worked for me,but not totally eliminated.
