Re: 1298 VS 1324

The primary difference between the G13b GTI 1298 block and the G13a Samurai block is the water jacket and oil jacket. A complete short block 1298 is vastly different to the 1324. The 1298 has a higher pressure oil pump, forged crank, pistons, rods. The crank is counter balanced.

Upon your question, we would not recommend mixing cranks with the 1324 block. The provision on the bottom of the block are different for the counterbalances.

The main difference is the bore (If I remember right)

Re: 1298 VS 1324

here in Portugal the 1298 engine comes on the samurais that are sold by the portuguese suzuki dealer. the 1324 engine comes on the samurais imported from Germany.

Santana motors company in spain builds them with the 1298 and the german factory builts the samys with the 1324.

my 2 cents

Re: 1298 VS 1324

Hey Petroworks,

Are the differences you cited between 1298 and 1324 blocks referring to all 1298 engines (including post '90 EFI Samurais) or just the GTI DOHC 1298?

Re: 1298 VS 1324

the G13b in the samurai 90-95 8v is a duplicate of the 1324, just a shorter stroke. It does not have the advantages of the GTI motor. Later model G13b in the 16v samurai or swift is like the GTI block.

Re: 1298 VS 1324

I used the whole 1298 block in my samurai using the samurai head, and water pump. some ppl say you can use the crank from it but i would ask Dave @ asian autoparts of az, he builds them for a living.

Re: 1298 VS 1324

I thought the differences you were talking about sounded like between the 1324 and a GTI type 1298 block, instead of 1298 blocks in general. I've never seen one of the Samurai 1298 engines torn down, but I didn't think those blocks were much different from the 1324. Thanks.
