Carrier swap

1988 Samurai
As indicated in my last post I would like to use a front carrier from an 1987 Samurai on the rear of my 88.5. I was told it was possible but the side gears had to be swapped because of a different diameter issue with the axles.
My question is this... What needs to be done to remove and replace the side gears? Can I do this myself? Can someone outline the procedure in brief assuming that I have the carrier out and ready to work on?

Thanks

Re: Carrier swap

it is easy! First, let me say that you can do all of this your self as long as you dont mess up the backlash on the r&p. When you have the carrier out remove the cover retained by 12mm bolts. and take off the ring gear, 14mm bolts. Pull out the pins for the spider gears. Pull out the spider gears. Take out the side gears (one is still on the cover or it may be on the spider gears when you take off the cover, you will see it). Do the same with the other carrier and put the rear side gears in the good carrier. Put everything back using blue locktite. i donno the torques but i dont use them anyhow.

Re: Carrier swap

This could be trouble. What is the R&P? How do I set the backlash? What do I set it one?
