knocking sound

I just got my Sami running pretty smoothly, but there are a couple things I have questions about. first off, when I first start it and it is warming up (high rev) it makes a knocking noise. almost sounds like a rod or lifter, but once the engine is warm I can't hear it anymore. any ideas?
also, when it first starts and is warming up i have a slight spray of water coming out of the exhaust, but again this goes away once it is warm. ok, that's all the probs for now, thanks for the help.

Re: knocking sound

Mine knocks too at warm up....my GUESS is it does it until the oil starts lubricating and warming. The water is probably just a lil moisture in the tailpipe from sitting a while.

If you dont stand for something, youll fall for anything. No shame in HIS name.

Re: knocking sound

that is what I was hoping to hear. this thing was given to me in almost perfect condition except the owner thought the engine was blown. I started tearing it apart (thinking the head gasket was blown) and found the gasket that goes between the carb and air cleaner stuck down inside the card, this caused the #1 spark plug to foul, so it was running on 3 cylinders. I changed the plugs, cap, rotor, wires, and leaky valve cover gasket and the thing is running like a champ. I couldn't be more lucky. If anyone has any bad news about my first post, even though I don't wanna hear it, please feel free. All your help is much appreciated.
thanks,
Steve

Re: knocking sound

mine does that too but that was when I was using mineral engine oil of 20W50 ..... I am now using semi-sinthetic engine oil of 15W50 and it works better. Quiter, better acceleration, and the engine runs a little cooler.

Anyways, suzuki recommends 10w30 oil if applicable in your climate.

good luck
