Which would be better???

Ok, i want to go to a lower gear in my samuri. Im planning on running 29 or 30" tires. Im just wanting some feedback (kinda like asking the audience on who wants to be a millionare) on which would be better. Sticking with the stock rearend gears and regearing the t-case or go with the stock t-case and use the 5.12 gears. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Will

Re: Which would be better???

Running a 4.16-1 t-case will counteract the 30" tires perfectly, and you can get it done for $450.
Putting in 5.12 R+P will put your final drive way high and your engine will turn 4800 rpms at 60mph, My thought is overreving, but then again my 86 has a 4.16 t-case and 5.12 R+P.

I would have to say do the t-case first, this way you will have the 4.16-1 low and this would be better off road than the 5.12 R+P with the 2.26 factory low. You will also not lose anything on road due to the t-case high range will perfectly match the tires you plan on using.

Re: Which would be better???

I agree. Go with the 4.16 t-case. The stock low-range is already too high. After all, you can drive on the freeway in low range! Save the 5.12's for when you have 33's with the 4.16 t-case, and get the t-case first.
