5 reasons to check your acclerater pump.

reason #5. It might swallow mud clogging your carb
4. These carbs are a total bitch to clean out.
3. Getting stuck on a trail where you have to try to clean the carb out with toilet paper is no fun.
2. DannyL get down here with those Pony carbs,,,,,
And the number 1 reason.......
Can't lead a zook run with no truck!!!!!

Seriously Check the rubber boot for your accelerater pump to make sure you don't have a tear in it.
I turned a perfectly running stock carb into a clump of mud filled pot metal in seconds...
Worked most of yesterday just to get it runnning at all. still need to fix a hesitation off of idle. That and
I think I ruined the main jet/electric mabobber... It was soooo full of mud. I had a rebuilt/remanufactered carb
but it didn't work either, Turns out it is missing some of the springs in the accelerater pump area. Oh well
time to start getting the bits to swap to the pony on friday or sat am...
On other news I was running the 2nd trail for zookin'2k (Thats where the mud pit is... Up to the hood in places
love them lockers..) and it is still as hardcore as ever. (Of course its 3 for 3 as far as beating me goes..
1st broke steering linkage,2nd ate the transmission, 3rd carb. someone is trying to tell me something..)

They say things happen in three's Glenn, so I think it may be safe for you
this weekend!
Is the 2nd trail the Beacon Trail? Are you talking about the mud pit on the upper half of the trail? If so, that can be nasty!
See ya Friday evening.
Anybody who's going to Zookin 2k have a spare seat for Saturday?

Re: 5 reasons to check your acclerater pump.

yup thats the one, took 3 tries to make it thru, (First two where a near thing on getting stuck.) man it was up to the hood. Still trying to get the mud out of the truck. I am pulling the carb off tonight to try one more time, As I still
have a bad stumble off idle, and the upper midrange still isn't right. I have it down to 10 mins to remove the carb at this point. and have most of the extras off it too.

Geez Glenn don't tell me I'm going to need a snorkel too!!!

I wanted to know if you wanted a rebuild kit for the carb, cause I don't have any left so I'll order now......

Re: 5 reasons to check your acclerater pump.

No need for the snorkel, at least if you are sane... As to the rebuild kit, how much is it for the kit?
as long as the carb is halfway okay the only thing I would need is an accelerator pump/boot if torn. I can make gaskets. If the accel pump boot is okay then I'll gamble that it's okay and not get the rebuild kit right now.
I am going to try to get my carb running right as it was great on the run this weekend/on all angles.
I will run a pressure regulator on the pony for this reason.

Zooky,
I should later today if this person is going or not!
It gets a little cramped in a Sami with 3-4 people, cooler,
tools, spare parts, etc. Not too mantion under powered!

Thanks

Re: 5 reasons to check your acclerater pump.

Fixed! Or should I say taken off and replaced.... I yanked the carb off the wifes truck and stuck it on this am.
fixed the problem. Of course now the alternator is dieing. (Bad bearings) I have a rebuild kit on the way should
be here this afternoon. So the trail leader will have a truck! I assembled the carb to the FSM and have rebuilt
many carbs over the years the damn things just kick my butt.

Re: 5 reasons to check your acclerater pump.

I personally think with the stock carbs you either have a good one or you have a bad one. Once they have started to act up I have never been able to get one to run right on a consistent basis again.
