Pinion seal

Has anyone had any experience with changing these, the rear one on mine is leaking badly.

1986 Samuraii
Shackles
4:1 trasfer case
More mods on the way just waiting for the lottery board to call

Yeah. Mine leaked a little for a long time, then all of a sudden it started pouring.

hi luigi,i just changed mine out.set emergency brake.pull rear drive shaft.take off pinion nut assembly.clean loose dirt from around seal area. use a seal puller,screw driver to remove seal.[NOTE]some of our part stores here will loan you the tools for the job ,if you buy the part there and leave deposit on tools.clean seal area again.lay seal up into flange seal opening and tap in seal.use proper tool,or large socket.retorque flange nut and your done.hope this helps ranger rick.

Ranger Rick do you know what the torque value is on the pinion nut, the manual I have is junk and doesn't even cover any part of the replacement..

What manual do you have? I suspect it is the Hayes.

Pinion bearing preload--7.8-14.7 lb-in.
Starting torque--4.0-7.5 lb

Mine started to leak also and like 88.5Samurai started to pour and flung lube all over the place. Had a local place replace it and they used an aftermarket seal. It was not exact and started to leak. They got one from the dealer instaled it and it never leaked again. Jim
