Birfield joint

I can hear my left front birfield popping when I get in a bind. Its been doing it for about a year but I try to be easy on it and its holding. Is there anything I can do to save it, maybe but on some joint rings, or is it too late and I should be shopping for a new axle.

Re: Birfield joint

A visual inspection would probably be the first step. They are pretty easy to replace and while its out you can put some rings on.

Re: Birfield joint

you might want to check your hubs, i thought mine was going out and i pulled it all down. come to find out it was a broke spring on the hub it would let the hub ratchet when in a tight corner. later mike

Re: Birfield joint

I have replaced wheelbearings on both sides and serviced my hubs recently. I spend a lot of time in the mud and my lockouts get stuck so im pulling em apart about every six months and cleaning them. I thought the noise was a weak birfield, every thing else on the axle is tight. Guess I will wait till it breaks.
