Grill

I have an '86 Samurai hardtop with the grill missing 3 of the 4 plastic mounting tabs. I preferr the look of the newer grills with the single "S". Does anybody know if the newer grills will fit in the earlier model Samurai. Thanks.

Re: Grill

The later model grill is not a direct bolt on to earlier model samurais. Can someone with a late model shop manual provide me with the list of hardware necessary to attache a late model grill to an early model samurai. Ideally copies of the pages would be appreciated. If someone has the "S" and mounting hardware from the late model grill that they would be willing to part with, I am willing to pay for it. Thanks.

Re: Grill

I have an '87 parts Zook and drive an '88.5. I tried to swap the old '87 grill into my new model. No can do, without serious fabrication. It's not just a bolt in. The bolt holes are in a different position and the grill is slightly miss-shaped (or is that my Zook?).

Re: Grill

I have a '94 with the S grill, I'll compare it to a older grill style and tell you if it will fit. Did you say you were pre or post-88.5?

Re: Grill

Hi Yankee Tim,
I appreciate your offer of help. I am trying to install a late model grill into my '86 hardtop. If you can provide me with any information on the difference between the installation hardware it would help alot.

I ordered a new grill based on the recommendation of a list member that said it would fit. It does not fit!!!! The grill is brand new still in wrapper. I purchased it from Dave at Asian Auto Parts of AZ. Dave gave me a fair price for the grill ($34) but charged me $20 for shipping. If I can't get this grill in without modification or damage, I will part with it for $34 Plus $5 shipping anyplace in the USA. If anybody is in need of a late model grill, let me know. Thanks.

Re: Grill

First thing about fabri'katin'. ANYTHING CAN BE MADE TO FIT!!!

Where does it seem like it won't match up? I think the difference might be where the grill actually screws to, but that can be remedied. If not, and you don't want to get stuck with that grill, I might buy if off ya since I know it will fit mine if I ever break it.

But don't worry, it'll fit. *breaking out the beat stick*

Re: Grill

...and a BFH.

Please let us know what you find out. My grill has taken a slight beating and I am thinking about using the same grill too.

My Samurai has a top speed of 60MPH and takes just a little over 4 minutes to achieve that speed! Wanna race?!?!?
