Carb rebuild????

It took me a month and a half to get the clutch cable and alternator i ordered. My samurai ran fine before. Now it runs fine at idle, but give it a little gas and it tries to die. If it doesnt die it boggs down and has no power. THe only thing i can think of is the carb since it was running fine before. Any one got any suggestions? I also need some tips on rebuilding the carb. Is there a link on the net somewhere with diagrams for rebuilding the carb because my sucky Haynes manual doesnt help at all?
thanks

Re: Carb rebuild????

Well my advice would be to do as little as possible to it... Open the two 12mm bolts to the float chamber
and squirt a cans worth of the nastiest carb cleaner you can find. then try it and see how it is. really there
is so little you can do to these carbs and so much you can screw up. I have rebuilt carbs for years but these
little stinkers are a pain. evan a professionally remanufactured carb I got was bad. It was replaced under
warrenty but I haven't swapped it back as the old on I stuck on it running great.

Re: Carb rebuild????

The mixture screw??????

all the way in = closed/lean???
all the way out = open/rich??

How many 360degree turns from all the in does the carb come set at when factory? I have just received a rebuilt one this morning but it appears as though it is running very rich. I can smell fuel (more than usual) coming from the exhaust, especially when changing gears.

Re: Carb rebuild????

Check your O2 sensor it may not be plugged in or good. It is on the exhuast manifold. If the computer isn't
getting anything from it it goes "open Circuit" which means Rich. The Idle mixture adjust will only take care of
the idle mixture.

Re: Carb rebuild????

Well i fixed it. Drained all the gas, then put in 1 gal. of super and a can of Chemguard in the tank. Cleared up in about 5 minutes. I would floor it so it would bog down that gave it a good dose of the Chemguard. Cleared up in no time. Even took her for a spin without any trouble.

Re: Carb rebuild????

Glad to hear that you got it. these carbs work okay until the smallest thing goes wrong then they are a bear to
troubleshoot.
