What options Do we have

Hey my buddy has an 87Sami and a line on a 90 tracker with EFI and auto tranny. Hey wants to know what are the options he has with the whole set up, ie motor to tranny to transfer case. He kinda wants to use the automatic out of the tracker, but will he have to use the tcase as well and is this an easy install? Also what about wiring harnesses, what can be used for that. This may be dumb, but I have never looked under a Tracker and therefore I dont know the answers to any of these. Any advise will be greatly appriciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: What options Do we have

What you have is an engine upgrade, but some are unhappy with it. I havent figured what is better, to use the block for an increased bore stroke length or the whole thing, maybe someone could give you feedback on it. It also means you will have front gear set for better ring and pinions, but you need to get another front set from another automatic tracker. You could also swap out the seats and use the power steering, and I found the cup holder fits nicely over the e-brake. Hope that helps.

Re: What options Do we have

Hello,
The Sidekick/Tracker has chain-driven transfer case, which does Not reduce the gearing in 2WD-- that is why they have the 4.62 or 5.12 ring & pinion gears. So if your friend swapps the whole engine, tranny & t-case in, r&p gears will be a necessity. You can use them from the donor vehicle w/ some modifications.
The EFI is aother whole can of worms-- some have successfully converted thier carb'd Samurai's over, but that kind of job isn't for everyone. The most conventional plan would be to install the 1.6L with a swap kit and use the Samurai 5-speed-- if your friend Really has a woodie for an automatic, get one from a 2WD 'Kick & stay with the Samurai t-case. (It Has been done before) Then, he also has the option of using the gears, but he'd better have some big tires
