Am I too tall for a Sam?

I am 6'5" tall and want to get a samurai. I got in one the other day that was completely stock and realized that I just don't fit! The shifter wet too far to the left when in first and second gears and my knee could not tuck under the steering wheel allowing me in to second or first gear! has any one modified the shifter so it's a tighter shift pattern or put a spacer behind the steering wheel(or put a new steering wheel on) to get the kind of clearence i need? will a body lift help any? and good swaps for a new colum that's longer?

and the sloppy shifter is just a spring that is easy to replace right?

Re: Am I too tall for a Sam?

I'm 6'4 1/2" 215lbs. and have no problem in mine. I have also had myself and 2 other freinds the exact same height and a bit heavier than me all in it at the same time with no problems fitting. Your claims seem exaggerated about you fitting in the sammi unless you weigh about 300+, if that's the case spend the money on jenny craig and not a sammi.

Re: Am I too tall for a Sam?

just take the top off and let your head poke above the windshield - then remove the front seats and sit in the back....

You might bend the shifter lever to the right a bit.And add a smaller diameter after market steering wheel.Another Idea would be to buy a jeep instead a cj-7 has much more room behind the wheel.

The sloppy shifter is a bolt you will need to replace. It shouldn't come that close to your knee once fixed.
You can remount the seat on the sliders 2-3" back and that should help. I'm only 5'11" and I moved mine back 2"
and it helped my back alot. ( The angle of my legs was too steep for my back to be very comfy.)

Re: Am I too tall for a Sam?

I had a CJ just like you do. I liked it a lot. The only problem was it was too expensive and I didn't like the market for aftermarket parts....too expensive and not my style. Sams are cheeper and smaller, parts are also eiser to get they still show up in junk yards. And on top of that they are the modern day willys' jeep, go wny where at little cost.

Re: Am I too tall for a Sam?

Just so you know i am 6'2" 320 pounds and i fit just fine. The steering wheel did go and I replaced it with a 12" one. Made a big diffrence in the room for my legs.
