GRS1 with 31\'s on the Highway

This might sound like a generic / often asked question....Anyone have a GRS1 and 31's? How is the performance on the highway? Top speeds? I am contemplating between 31's and 30's but this will be my daily driver and I do not want to sacrifice too much highway handling and speeds....

Re: GRS1 with 31\'s on the Highway

With my GSR1 and 30" in fifth I hit 75 at around 4000 RPM
the gearing seems just right. The 31's may be a little tall but not to bad.

it is not that big a difference i would go with the 31,s just to get all the clearance you can get.just remember you will never be the same because you will be a lot higher.i ran 32,s with the stock gears it wasn't terrible but i did spend a lot of time in 4 th.all i no is that you better go as big as you dare, because you will all ways want a little more.mike

Re: GRS1 with 31\'s on the Highway

I agree I am waiting for my thornbirds to wear out and move to 33's all I can say is I had them for 2 years now and I think I will have them for a LOT MORE.

The Samurai is light and does not wear tires our very quickly. So better buy a size that you want and not a size you will want to change after the summer.

Re: GRS1 with 31\'s on the Highway

i run 31" bfg MTs w/ 4.16 gears, and the tire is a little too tall for it, in other words, i lost top speed, my real max is about 110 km/h.

In general, it seems that the late samis were geared optimal (stock)... every change in tire size will lead to performance loss.

If you haven't already purchased a GRS1 and you've plenty of money to spend, consider a GRS2. It will get you closer to optimum
freeway gearing with 31" tires.
