starter fixable?

My starter doe'nt work sometimes until i tap it on the side with a hammer.Someone told me it has a bad solonoid connection and that it may be able to be fixed by taking it apart and cleaning the connections. Is that possible? or do i need to replace it?

Re: starter fixable?

Go to local Auto Electric Shop. They can sell you brushes and bushings. They will want to do all the work of installing the parts and bench test amarture with a final check of reassembled starter. They should sell just the parts if that is all you want. No warranty if you instal the parts.
