I have read that the differentials from a sidekick bolt right into a samurai. If this is true, does anybody know what the stock standard ratio is for the sammy and the sidekick? How can I find out ( ie. tag numbers on the axles?) Any help or info on this would be greatly appreciated.
The front Sidekick Diff (third member) will bolt into the front or rear sam housing, you will need to change side gears for the Sam front axles. They are aluminum!! and will break if hit with a rock, I've seen this. I have sidekick front ring and Pinions in my Sam cast steel Third members, this is stronger. The rear Sidekick diff is too large for the Sam housing, but some companies are making hybrid housings that use Sam axles and brakes with the larger Sidekick rear third members.
Gear ratios are;
1.6 manual trans sidekick- 5.12
1.6 auto trans 4.62?? (in the 4.6 range)
1.3 Sidekick (early) man trans 5.38 (not real sure on this one)
No tag # on axles, just count the teeth.
Stock Sam gears are 3.73
