New Jimny in US?

I wonder how hard it would be to convince Suzuki to bring the new Jimny to the US. I can't believe they have opted to release the XL6 (with a larger engine than the grand vitara) instead of a better offroad vehicle. It kinda goes against everything they have built and stood for for the past 60+ years ("Small cars for a small planet"). Not that I am against the new XL6, hopefully it will be a good offroader and not just another "me too" grocery getter. I just prefer the SWB Samurais and and other small offroad vehicles Suzuki is so well known for. I think if Suzuki played their cards right and really put on a good marketing campaign to back it, the new Jimny would be a huge success over here. It would just be so nice to get a brand spankin' new Samurai too! What do you guys think?

Thumbs up to that. However unless they add air bags, and do a few other mods it will still be dubbed Samuri and from what I understand they dont want to associate with the name Samuri any longer in this country.

Where can I get a look-see at this XL6, first I've heard of it.

Re: New Jimny in US?

Scratch that. Just took a look at it on caranddriver.com.

I bet that thing can just CRAWL over those curbs at the supermarket parking lot.

And considering it will be running the same 2.5 thats in the GV, thats all it will do anywhere...CRAWL.

Friggin' thing will have all it can do to get out out it's own way.

Bring back the Sammy. Period. Except put the new V6 in it.

Re: New Jimny in US?

In defense of the XL6, it is supposed to have a larger engine in it than the GV's 2.5L 6 when it goes on sale this December. I like your idea of the 6 in the new Samurai! I'll take two!!

Actually, even better would be the micro v8 Suzuki developed for their C2 concept 2 seat sports car a few years back. It was supposed to put out around 250hp!!! Now that would be one awesome Sammy...

Re: New Jimny in US?

Here are the details for that v8:

The 1.6 litre micro-V8 is a double overhead camshaft, multi-point fuel injected, intercooled TWIN-TURBO with variable valve timing and is good for 250bhp

go to: http://www.score.org.uk/gall_c2.html to check it out and see photos of the engine and the car!

Re: New Jimny in US?

If it's got the micro V8, then I'm ordering one now and trading in my 2000 GV Limited.

I bought the GV as a tow vehical for my Sammy (Suzuki purist), but this new one seems like it might do the job better.

Re: New Jimny in US?

Probably too much trouble to get the Jimny converted to pass all of the government regulations for importation.

Re: New Jimny in US?

Just got off the phone with my dealer. Looks like I'm in line to buy the first one they get. Huh, that means I will have owned my GV for 6 mos. till I trade it in.

What is that saying about fools and their money?
