measuring back spacing

friend of mine has some rims,but has no idea what the back spacing is .how would one measure back spacing ?
any help would be great.

lay the wheel face down,valve stem down.,lay some flat stock accross the rim ,not the tire.measure from back side of center of wheel to top of wheel flat stock.2"/2.75" would work for you.hope this helps ranger
