rear bearing retainer

I blew out one of my rear wheel bearings and the replacement one did not come with the bearing retainer (the ring that presses on after the bearing). The parts guy said it was not required with after market bearings and could not find a part number for it. This does not sound right, should there be a retainer or can I install the bearing without it?

Re: rear bearing retainer

I think the retainer will hold the bearing in place. Check with NAPA for the bearing with retainer.
Part # GRW 185R bearing
Part # 18962 seal
If you replace the bearing you should also replact the seal.

Re: rear bearing retainer

You definately need the retainer or the bearing will slide around!
The other thing I found out is that most all parts guys don't know jack!
