full axle swap from tracker to sammy

has any one ever swaped in a full tracker rear axle under a sammy ? if you did, would the front axle's gearing of the samurai be corrected by instaling the 3rd member from from the same tracker?
i have a line on a 90 geo tracker and would like to check out my options if i buy it .i all ready have a 1.6 l block in the sammy so the spare engine wouldn't hurt .i was just wondering.(can get cheap, cheap, cheap !!!)
p.s. what is the gearing in a 1990 geo tracker, and would i be able to bolt it in with the sammy side gears ?
thanks ,zukikid

Re: full axle swap from tracker to sammy

hey man, if the if it is a auto, it probably has 4:62 gears if i recall correctly. if it is a stick truck, it will have 5:12 gears. the rear diff is a centered unit where the sammy is offset. you can get the hybrid housing from Brent (trail tough) for $150. lets you use the rear tracker rear third unit and the rest of the stock sammy hardware. got one of those units in my rig. i swear by it. never had a problem. the front third member will bolt into your zuk. believe there is a difference on the driveline flanges flanges though. if you do get it, i got a buddy who may well be interested in the wiring harness so he can convert to efi. good luck.

ps
dont know the specifics about swapping r&ps into the sammy third members. i just run a kick 3rd member in my front. never had a problem yet. anyone who has wheeled with me will tell you that i run my zuk HARD!!!

Re: full axle swap from tracker to sammy

I AM RUNNING A FULL AXLE OUT OF A GOE TRACKER IN MY 88.5, YOU NEED TO CLEARANCE THE DRIVE SHAFT U JOINTS AND DON'T USE DRIVE SHAFT SPACERS.I HAD TO EXTEND THE DRIVE SHAFT 2 IN. WITH 5.5 IN. SPOA AND 2 IN. SHACKLES. BUT THE BRAKE LINE HOOKED UP NO PROBLEM, BUT ON A 88 BACK YOU WILL HAVE TO CHANGE THE LINES FROM 2 TO 1. I STILL HAVEN'T HOOKED UP THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLES,I DON'T LIKE THE WAY THEY HANG DOWN, I AM GOING WITH A SPIDER TRAX DISK PARKING BRAKE. HOPE THIS HELPS MIKE.
