1.8L problems

anyone with experience with the 1.8L Sidekick engine? Read on another board at www.suv.com that people were experiencing pre-mature leakage around the rear main seal; others complained about leakage around the rear diff. seals; Also complaints about the cost and availability of spark plug wires (something about each plug having its own coil?). The local Pep Boys doesn't even show a wire for the 1.8L engine.

I am trying to decide between a used Sidekick Sport (120hp) or regular Sidekick (1.6L 95hp) or a Tracker (1.6L). Can anyone calm my fears or expand on these complaints.

Re: 1.8L problems

Don't know about that engine but the coil on plug design is the up and coming thing. Can only be a costly pain to replace. GM Quad 4 engine has coil on plug hidden under a aluminum cover with all of the coils molded together. I have seen people complain about just the cost of 16 valve plug wires for 1.6 sidekick engine.
