Engine Difficulties

I have a 1988 samurai with a 1600 engine and tires that are 235 x 75 r 15.

My first question is about hesitation in acceleration, as I accelerate sometimes my engine will bog or hit a dull spot and I dont know what it is. I have had this problem for a while now, I figured getting a different kind of carb would solve this, but its still there. What should I look for?

My next question is about mileage. I have larger tires then stock but my drive train is still stock, is this killing my mileage because I have been getting 17
to 19 mpg it sucks. I was using a weber, now I am using the new carb from petroworks.

It sounds like your ignition system is either getting very weak or the distributor isn't working correctly . Over time the advance plate can get stuck and won't allow the vacuum advance or mechanical advance to work . Unless you have a fair bit of experience with them it would be best to source a rebuilt . Check around and see if someone can help you check the timing curve with an advance light ...
