Speedometer jumping

I don't know if sitting for awhile would cause my speedo needle to bounce on my 94 sidekick but when I drive it it is way off and bounces now. Any ideas, bad cable? Something else?

speedo cable problem

Your speedometer cable is going bad. Somewhere along it's length, there is a bit of frayed wire rubbing and catching on the inside of the outer cover.

Time to replace it.

Note to self: Replace speedo cable on the '96 Tracker...

if the needle is bouncing up and down then you are hitting the bumps too fast. If the needle is bouncing side to side then you need lower gears in the t-case.

Otherwise, change the cable

I'll slow down and change the gears first, then I'll try the cable . New cable is on the way.
