Small & L flange D shafts what gives????
 
This isn't much of an issue, Im just curious, but what's the difference between the earlier (pre 88.5 small) flange and the later (large) flange???

I'm no rookie, but EVERY drive shaft,T/case,trany,or rear Iv swaped no matter pre or post 88.5 has been the same. Maybe Iv had some dumb luck and someone else had swaped stuff but I doubt it.

Right now I have the old school Trany and T/case with New style Shafts, and rears. There's no issue with anything not matching up. My friend has the same. we'v compared side by side 6 shafts 3 pre 3 post 88.5 and I cant see any difference. Can anybody point out what Im missing here?

The newer ones are a little bigger and take 14 mm bolts instead of the older 12 mm bolts ..

I wonder if they were all like that? We are both using 14mm bolts through all the flanges and we'v never had to drill any thing out when mixing and matching pre and post parts.

88.5 and older all used an 8mm through hole with a 12mm wrench head all newer large flanges used a 10mm through hole with 14mm wrench flats. also the 1985 used a differnt I.D on the centering ring. It was smaller

Some 1988.5 and all older used an 8mm through hole with a 12mm wrench head. Some 1988.5 and all newer large flanges used a 10mm through hole with 14mm wrench flats.
