Help? Installed Used Alternator... No starting?

Hi guys,
I have installed a used alt. without disconnecting the neg. battery terminal (i'm too impatient for my own good). and since I did the truck will turn over just fine but won't start. I don't think I am getting fire. I have run 10aug. grounds from batt. to firewall and dist. housing to firewall. and the ground from the thermostat cover tab is broken off so I extended it and grounded to my fenderwell. Still no starting. Please help. it ran before.

Also. I filled up the radiator the other day and noticed the pee hose at bottom (off the petcock) is dripping. now the radiator is empty. I don't think drip, drip for two days could empty it. I saw that someone home rigged some crap on the firewall. I don't understand much cooling system wise so could someone give me a crash course on what hoses do what. specifically the large hose that plugs into the back of the intake manifold.? thanks sorry for the length of the post.

*but I have some bfg's (215-75-15) and am gonna cut off my doors soon.
