Youd think I woulda learned somthin

I just got my zuk back from the shop today (vac hose problems) and it was still riding funny. kinda loses power when holding the pedal steady, runs fine under acceleration, but doesnt like to be at a steady pace. The gas pedal also doesnt seem to have much effect until about halfway to the floor, so I'm guessin carb. Any way, back to the story. So being young (20) and dumb (DUMB) and pissed that my zuk still not funning right, I decide runnin right or not, I'm gonna beat on this rig. I've owned it for 3 weeks and still havent wheeled it, I'm wheelin it. Nows a good time to bring up the fact that I'm alone, I havent been out to this trail yet this year and oh yeah, my zuk is bone stock. So I'm havin fun on this trail when I see this puddle that wasnt there last year, but I'm thinkin thats a good thing, I'll get some mud on the truck. Do I even have to tell you how stuck I got, the two wheels spinning were completely sunk (Damn suzuki, should have put lockers in stock. THEY KNEW WE WERE GONNA BEAT EM!) any way one of my buddies came and pulled me out and I had fun beating it the rest of the way down the trail, but like I said, you think I woulda learned, but the fact is I already knew. I know not to wheel alone, and I know stock tires belong on the street, but I guess I just learned never wheel when your really pissed at your rig.

Re: Youd think I woulda learned somthin

For the not running good part, it sounds like the the jet for your primary is plugged. I had the same problem a few times and a quick fix without having to pull the carb apart is the Mexian Carb Tune-up. To do this take the air bowl off the carb, start the truck, now from under the hood rev the truck up to like 5000 rpm and put your hand over the top of the carb to block off the air flow and pull the throttle wide open at the same time(untill the engine dies). You have to make sure you get a good seal between your hand and carb so now air gets in. So anyways now start the truck back up holding the throttle to the floor to start as it is now flooded and do a repeat the whole process a couple more times. Now go for a drive to see if it's better. If not try again or take carb apart(Which I haven't had to do yet as this trick has always worked).

In case your wondering how covering the carb up gets dirt out of the carb I'll tell ya. What happens is when the engine is spinning at 5 grand or so and you block off it's air flow the engine needs something to suck into the engine so it ends up sucking up fuel and and seeing that the jets can only allow so much fuel in it will suck out the dirt as well(hopefully).

Re: Youd think I woulda learned somthin

Hey Goulet..

I have been known to do some pretty dumb things myself, but I learned that gunning for mud puddles without researching them first is a BAD idea. When I see one on a trail i get out and poke it with a stick to see how deep it is and how gummy the mud is underneath it. Then I measure the stick against my wheels and clearance.

I had a good teacher (wildweasel) for trail basics and along with the other stuff you mentioned (dont go out alone and/or without recovery gear, especially on a trail you don't know) that mud puddle one stuckc in my mind. I am a lot more cautious wheeler than most folks, I think, but getting stuck in the mud seems like one of the biggest fiascos going. I don't want to have to roust people to save me from my own stupidity (I am old enough to know better) and I don't want to spend an afternoon cleaning my truck either.

Speaking of which...if you submerged your diffs, dont forget to change the lube. Its probably full of water, now.

a friend of mines sami ran like crap for months, he tried a bunch of things to try to fix it. Someone at Paragon last year did that to the carb, took 2 minutes and the problem never came back

LOL none taken, how have you been? havent seen you around here in ages...I must say he brought back many a memory of me as a young gun thinking I can drive my zuk through anything, now Im lucky I just float across mudholes so there depth only matters when the wheels stop turning Im clearly with daxe tho, unless you like surprize swims and hate your zuk, always scout your territory. I've heard to many bad stories from guys "runnin and gunnin" to tell anybody to do differently...
