Longest Trip in the Sammy

I was considering driving the Zuke to Zuwharrie in the fall. It is in the 600 mile range from CT to NC. When the Zuke was new we did take it up to upstate Maine but that is about the furthest. That got me to wondering what is the longest trips people have taken driving in their Zukes. I know Crow did NY to the melt. That's a long drive. Jim

Re: Longest Trip in the Sammy

NJ to Indiana for Zukmelt 750 miles
NJ to Zuwharrie, 450 miles

But the absolute furthest so far... stock tintop, no air, NJ to Miami, FL ... 1330 miles. I would never do that again!

Re: Longest Trip in the Sammy

I drove my first stock 1.3 w/ 3" bodylift and 31 BFG's from NJ to Cape Hatteras NC. I had to go 50 mph if I was lucky and my transfercase started screaming after a few hours of driving. It lasted most of the week. The only case I could find was $250 but the A$$ wouldnt sell it to me unless he put it in for another $250. Any way....It was alot of fun dragracing my brother in his yoda and his friend with an old V6 jeep up and down the beach all day. Re: Longest Trip in the Sammy

Back in '96, a few members of my club decided we were tired of talking about the Rubicon and just do it. Three of us drove and two trailered. From S. Colorado to Nevada City,
did the Ersheim Trail, then down to Auburn for groceries,
did the Rubicon, back to Nevada City, home to Colorado.
I figure about 2500 miles in the Zuk. Needless to say, I was partially crippled for several days.

Re: Longest Trip in the Sammy

975 miles round trip from Kansas City to Attica for 'Melt 02.

I don't know what was worse, driving the Missouri section of I-70 or driving the Missouri section of I 70 with no top at night in a tee and shorts... That was a COLD experience - even in July!

Ack

PS:
In case you might be wondering, I swapped my removable hardtop for a set of Tracker seats...

Re: Longest Trip in the Sammy

Fort Worth Tx to Springfield Il and back again
about 1600 miles round trip.

That was with lifted shackles and 29" swampers.

The drivetrain held up fine, I just had issues on the trip with throttle and clutch cable.

Los Angeles to San Francisco, about 700+ miles one way. Wern't the fastest thing on the road but made rhe round trip with ease. Ride not to bad, but if you'r into creature comforts get a Jaguar.

Re: Longest Trip in the Sammy

My kids and I drove to Panamint Springs last Memorial Day for a long weekend of offroading. 367 miles for the first part of the journey, then a bunch of driving up there and then the trip home. It was not too bad, just really cramped with 3 of us and camping gear.
