Tranny again !!

Having trans problems again. It whines in all gears except 4th gear. Can it be fixed or do I need a new tranny. It's a Sammy trans It got more noticeable after the 16 valve swap. And is it common for a brand new Center Force throw out bearing to make noise when I let go of the clutch even in neutral.

Re: Tranny again !!

Did you swap the pilot bearing? If not and it is bad that would
cause the problem.

Re: Tranny again !!

NO,you have a bearing in the tranny going out it needs rebuilt, more than likely its a lower front that is bad. What the deal is it will run on the lower gear rack excpt in 4th,4th is straight through so no noise....fix it befor it quits on you..

Re: Tranny again !!

Ya... What 'zilla says...

In Fact.... if the noise is lessened when the clutch is engaged but starts growling again when released it definitely is the tranny shaft bearings.... ~$250 for the COMPLETE set-up (less for the main bearing sets) just about all of the major vendors have them...

When you go to rebuild it make sure to get at least 2 syncro rings along with the bearing kit (used will do if the edges are still sharp and crisp in appearance) 1st or 2nd will almost always need a replacement. The great thing about sami's is that the syncros are interchangeable throughout the tranny..
