Any comments on the 2.0 motor?

They made me a reeeeeal good offer on the smoked-in Tracker. It's an 02, has the 2.0 / 5 spd, anything different about this motor from the 1.6? good, bad?

comments welcome!

I'm confident we can get the odor out.

actually ive been told the 2.0 is a decent engine...basically the 1.8L with the bugs worked out. the 1.8 in our kick sport we had was pretty peppy

toyguy, my wife and I each have 2 door softtop vitara's with 2.0/auto, they seem to be great little engines.

I think they are pretty good motors. The only problem I had with the one in our tracker was the rear main oil seal went out at like 30K. But they were very peppy even with the auto tranny. I think it would be awesome in a samurai.

Re: Any comments on the 2.0 motor?

My job sent me California a while back and I stole enough time to drive up to Portland to see my Mom. On the way up I made it a point to find Trail Tough's shop(on a Sunday no less)and lucked up to find someone working inside. Anyway, besides their monster rig(Crustacean I think-can't find the pix)they also had another Sammi in the shop that had a 2.0 in it. WOW!!!! Did it look sweet or what? It's a tight fit and you've got to use an electric fan because there isn't much clearance to the radiator but it works. Trail Tough (Brent) can give you the particulars on the swap and I hear they make a 2.0 tranny adapter plate too. Good Luck!!!!!
(I'm going with the Swift GTi swap-probably not as easy as the 2.0)

Re: Any comments on the 2.0 motor?

thats a common 1.8/2.0 quirk....the way the tranny mount is designed is it throws dirt and debris right at the bellhousing. we were lucky with our kick sport...it didnt have the leak. but i think dschwab9 over on zuwharrie and r/t had problems with that.

my buddy who i found out last night is now formerly a suzuki mechanic said the 2.0 is much better then the 1.8L and was a good reliable engine. he didnt elaborate why he just said he liked them much better...would see them less for service then the 1.8's

Re: Any comments on the 2.0 motor?

The 2.0 has ALOT of differences from the way the engine is setup with the P/S pump on the pass side and the crazy serpentine belt running everything to the direct ignition/distributorless ignition system.
Look familiar?

Soon to be installed!!!!

Re: Any comments on the 2.0 motor?

Sean, that looks like the motor in the Tracker out in the driveway

Happened to park right next to a Vitara this evening. It looks like the ONLY difference between a Tracker and a Vitara are the headlights, grill, steering wheel cover, and badges. (and 16 inch wheels)

Now...how do I lift this an inch or 2??? XL-7 springs??

The stock zuke wheels with 235s go on this weekend to check for rubs...

1st mod was adjust the slack out of the throttle cable, 2nd was remove Tracker badges..much better.

Re: Any comments on the 2.0 motor?

Grand Vitara springs or XL7 springs should give you an inch or so, but spacers would be the cheapest route.
This is a peppy little motor. We'll see how she does in a Zuk!

Re: Any comments on the 2.0 motor?

if that is the engine I think it is....I wish they would have kept the oil pump on the crank shaft like the other engines.....that chain driven pump scares me a little.

btw..send us a picture of the new beast....I forgot to meantion it to Jason, due to the fact he was cooking our Supper..he is a good cook, and so cute in an apron LOL
