MIG welding question. ADVICE NEEDED

hello. i am applying for a welding job and it requires being certified for MIG in a G-3 open root. this is a vertical up groove with open root in the center.

i am looking for advice on performing this weld properly. i did not get into any multi pass or groove welds in my wirefeed class. i have been doing quite a few multi pass open root beeveled butt welds in arc so i have a pretty good feel for what is required. i am just a little worried that since i have not performed this particular weld in MIG, that i won't get it mastered in time for the certification test.

this coming monday i will have a few hours in class to do a couple practice welds with my instructor. i am just looking for some pointers from the welding experts here.
