dumb ST top bow question

Im putting my sami top bow back on and I am not sure which way the black things go, which end of the bow hinges and which side is up on the bow. Ya know?

Does anyone have a clear picture of the top bow and how it mounts so I can be sure to screw it back on right? I cant really get the softtop back on right now because its not warm enough, but I dont want to put something on backwards or upsidown and pop the seams on the top trying to snap it on.

Thanks and please don't laugh too hard.

Re: dumb ST top bow question

You should post this on the Pirate board. I bet they'd help ya' .

The plastic pieces fit on with the hinge part to the front. The hinge part is the piece that the metal piece from the bow bolts to. Does that make sense? I can get ya' a pic tomorrow if you're still stumped.

The mounts screw on with the hinge facing forward. When you put the top on you move the hinge up & over to lock in the rear.

Re: dumb ST top bow question

the whole assembly is still together..the bow itself, the metal parts that hinge over the plastic parts and the plastic parts themselves. So the pivot point of the plastic and metal thing is towards the front or the rear (of the truck)? The top bow has a little flip in it and that should go up or down when the bow is laying flat on the rear? There's only two ways this whole thing can go on and one or the other is backwards.

Just a major brain fart happening, sorry.

Re: dumb ST top bow question

Hinge part towards the front.... That will "lock" the soft top into place when it's on. You'll understand when you put it on.

Make sure it's warm out when you put the top on or you'll go nuts tryin to get it to stretch. It's supposed to be at least 60* out. You could probably get away with getting it on if you leave the top inside or in the sun to warm up first.

If you want, I'll make a "Putting the top on" video and market it for $19.99 . You could be my first customer .

Don't feel bad, I knew a kid who sold his Samurai because he had such a hard time trying to figure out how the top wnet on.

Now, put the bong down and clear your head... It's Zen time.

Re: dumb ST top bow question

OK..I found a picture of my own truck that shows the position of the whole mechanism.

I should just go to bed and start over again tomorrow.

PS: I haven't used that stuff in at least 20 years, that's not the problem. There's nothing with my memory, I can remember stuff like blue hoods..

Re: dumb ST top bow question

That's actually NOT correct. That's what it will look like when you just get the top on. You'll need to flip that metal piece over once the top's on. That'll lock it up so it won't flap around.

Re: dumb ST top bow question

Captn is right. The picture is not correct. Plastic is in correct position but metal piece needs to flip back toward the rear of the vehicle.

I've found it easier to put the top on when it is cool outside if you leave it inside the house overnight before trying to install it. It fits well under a bed.

Re: dumb ST top bow question

I knew the metal part flipped over the plastic part at some point, but you are supposed to do it after you get everything else snapped/buttoned/zipped, etc? Like its the last thing you do when you are putting up the top?

The reason I am so apprehensive about this is because the top seams are getting kinda weak. The windows and canvas are fine, but the seams are a bit weathered and look like a tear or leak trying to heppen. I can force something to go on but I dont want to do that and hear a big RRRIIIPPPP sound and then need a new top.

thanks for your patience, you guys.
