well the evening just ended very abruptly

Well I got the new motor mounts and got out to the garage about 8:00pm. I cut off the pass side frame mount and moved it back 1" to make everything nice and straight, then I removed the pass side bracket that goes from the mount to the plenum, once removed it revieled a rather nice crack in the block in the #3 cylinder wall right at the webbing.... I feel a little sick.

RR, sorry to hear that, I hate when things like that happen, check it close. maybe it can be
fixed. With some heat, cast welds pretty well, or Uh, no, this is alum isn't it? got a TIG?

1.6 16v it appears that the rod may have popped it from the inside.. wont know till I pull the motor out and drop the pan.

Re: well the evening just ended very abruptly

sorry to hear about the crack rockrat. the yards around here sell 1.6 engines faster than they can get usable or even rebuildable ones in.

hopefully for your sake it is just a crack in the block which should be weldable using TIG. the auto and diesel shop is always dropping off aluminum stuff that is cracked and broke and our welding instructor has fixed almost all of them. the thin 1.6 casting should tig together nicely.

Re: well the evening just ended very abruptly

Thats what i hope is that maybee it was poped long before and rebuilt and this was never noticed. You would never see this unless you removed the plenum bracket. So I am goting to popp the pan today and and take a look for any contact. and make sure the rod is in good condition. then I will tig it up.

Re: well the evening just ended very abruptly

Sorry to hear the engine's toast. Where'd you get it from? Maybe if you let them know they'll replace it?
