Ractive air filters

I've been doing a lot of thinking about some type of cone filter for my 91 Tracker. I would really like to fab a snorkel but I fear what that would do to the resale value.
I got looking at cone style filters, k&n's and others. I found one made from a company called Ractive. Actually found it in the JCWhitney catalog for 39.99, then found it online for 23.99. The thing I like about them is that they have a hard shell around them that helps keep dirt and water out of the filter. They look like a good unit and I was just wondering if anyone here has ever heard of them or used them.

Thanks,
Jeff

Re: Ractive air filters

I have them on both of my Zooks. I bought the sheilded model to protect the filter from mud and water splashes, and that with the cold ait intake add-on kit, you can make a snorkel.

While the filter is good, the design of the heat sheild is flawed. The filter is set into hard plastic, and there is no gaskets between the shield and the metal base. If you use these, you must put sillycone in there or you'll get bypass around the filter.

Re: Ractive air filters

I'v got a carbon fiber looking Ractive filter thats going in my zuke when I'm finished painting it. Thanks for the tip with the silicone. I see it has a metal mesh filter. Do I use K&N filter oil or engine oil?
