Trans doesnt want to go in 1st while moving?

My zuki doesnt want to go in to first untill its almost compleatly stopped. At first I tought it was the (temp) shift locator bolt, that I fabed. But I was just thinkin about puttin the new one in tonight (in this ****ty slushi crap weather),then it dawned on me...my clutch probably isnt disengaging all the way. It shifts fine sittin still and in all other gears movin. I recently put a centerforce II in with a new clutch cable (less than 100 miles ago),the cable probably stretched alittle, right?

There's probably no problem. My Samurai is the same way.

Most of the time it's nothing more than worn synchros...

That's normal. If you blip the throttle to get the RPM's up a bit, it will go in. At least, it should. "Kinda" like double clutching..... "kinda".....

Cheers,
Steve

Re: Trans doesnt want to go in 1st while moving?

worn out synchros as sarge has already stated is very common on all light duty suzuki manual trannys and will give you the same symptoms you have described. if you don't believe me go test drive a used swift gti car. most of them have worn syncros in both first and second making downshifts into first and second very difficult unless you double clutch.

on samurai and sidekick manual trannys, most people just toss in new bearings and seals when they rebuild their own trannys but rarely replace the syncros. i am guilty of that too but mine was on a trail only rig that sees no street time ever.

Mine is the same way, although mine feels like 2nd gear might poop out at anytime, Probably just worn synchros, Just double clutch and your good to go, although if it didn't do it before you put the cable on, i might look into it a little closer. But its a fairly common thing on ALL cars.

My sami does the same thing, but if I downshifted directly to first while moving it would probably cause my eyeballs to pop out of the sockets .... the decelleration would be kind abrupt.

I have had this happen a few times too. everytime it has been the pilot bearing was frozen up and keeping the input shaft spinning so check that too.
