Re: 4 wheelin Video Camera, what kind do you like/rec

Do you want to edit on the computer or on a VCR ? I had a non digital camera , but I outgrew it and decided to go with a DV setup . Now with a firewire cable I can run the video stright to Adobe and start chopping . Adobe has a steep learning curve , but Windows movie maker is a good starting point .
My camera is a Panasonic mini dv and I take it on every trip . I have a hardsided cooler that I lined with foam and that is where the camera stays while I am not using it . It has done well ,even surviving a month in dusty Moab .I have seen mini dvs for 399.00 and you can get an open box one even cheaper .
If digital editing is of no concern I had good luck with a Hi-8 JVC . It was simple to use and took a beating . Hope this helps.

Re: 4 wheelin Video Camera, what kind do you like/rec

i just had to add to this!

i've been using a jvc digital cam for a couple years now.
there everywhere for under $300.00 (digital camcorder)
i still do editing with two vcr's

but the coolest thing...

mount the camera on the dash!
run a inverter for continous power supply & put a extra long tape in & just let the thing stay stuck on record.

it is so cool when the offroad trips are over, & you come home & throw a tape in...most of the times the memories are in your head of the past trail rides. BUT when you actually see the same view of everything you did on the trails through the camera on the tv, it's really cool.

ya' guys gotta try it!

lots of sky shots you REALLY do not remember.

or as a non-rider watches, check thier re-actions to your crazy offroad driving skills. it is very entertaining.
